This ensemble has a three-fold mission: first, to preserve the tradition and proper performance of African and African American secular and sacred forms of music; second, to perpetuate and perform the music of African American composers; and third, to set in juxtaposition this music with the “commonly” accepted canon of choral repertoire. This mission will enable the ensemble to perform all forms, styles, and genres of music while championing the cause of re-shaping the narrative of “the history of music,” specifically choral music. In fulfilling this mission, the ensemble will create venues that will enhance the careers of its members by offering note-worthy performance opportunities, both as soloists and choir members. This ensemble, too, will endeavor to partner with youth, church, and community groups to spread the love for the arts, encourage future musicians and music educators, and help those in need.
